I have been a member of this gym for 2 years and was very disappointed. The equipment is always full in the evening and you have to sit around and wait on a machine. The service was very disappointing. We were told that we would have personal trainers to help us meet out goals. The first week was great while we were "testing" it out but as soon as we joined, all the things we were promised were forgotten. You had to pretty much pull the trainers away from the girls as they seemed more interested in hooking up than actually working. My husband and I were both very unhappy and are moving our membership to the Y.
This gym is great for its' size. When I first began the size of the gym seemed a little imposing, but after learning locations of equipment I use regularly, it really began to feel like home. After taking time out to get to know the staff I never enter, or leve without a hello, or goodbye from one of the ladies like Lindsey, or Mindy. Dave the owner always speaks, or gives a thumbs up if he's busy to acknowledge you if he is seeing you for the first time that day. I love the member appreciation day each month b/c of all of the wonderful food from all the local restaraunts and the free 5 minute massages offered from time to time is great after a workout. I love the fact they have pictures of "THE OAK", Schwarzenegger,  posted in the gym. Dave has always been helpful if I ever had a question and other trainers like Sandy, Cindy, April, and Skip are always nice. Because of the equipment, the frequency of my training, and people willing to encourage, or pass on meaningful compliments, I have experienced good gains in both my strength and in my appearance. The worst thing I can say about the place is the bathrooms which I would give a 3, 3 1/2, but I wouldn't ever give any gym anything higher than this because it is impossible to keep a bathroom spotless with the volume of people that come through.
Powerhouse Gym is one of the best gyms i have ever been to in my life.. i love the trainers, staff, hours, and how clean it is...when i heard about this website i had to write a review..then i saw all the negative thoughts put on Powerhouse....everything that they had wrote were false. they have the best equipment and plenty for everyone, even in the busy hours. the gym is spotless and bathrooms are wonderful. The agreement that you have to sign fits what you can afford and how long you want it. if you sign something for a year you should be able to afford it. so stop naggin about the agreement. for all you people that wrote bad things get motivated and work out instead of cancelling . noone wants someone unhealthy. and for the person who said they spit and cuss in the gym..everyone cusses once and a while and noone spits in the gym. thats just disrespectful. and for the one who bad mouthed dave he is not bad he does his job.you signed the agreement for a year, you couldnt afford it or couldnt get motivated thats your own problem not theres. Dont sign or agree to something that you cant handle yourself. keep on rockin Powerhouse!
I copied my letter to Credit Card Dispute Dept below - BE VERY AWARE OF THIS COMPANY - THEY ARE CRIMINALS!!!
Angie I appreciate your help on this. I have more disturbing information regarding this vendor. I called PowerHouse Gym this morning to let them know about the inaccruate charges to my credit card. I was told Dave (the owner) would call me back. He left a message on my machine with a bunch of lies saying he received my letter of cancellation on 10/10 - this is a lie. I have the certified receipt showing he received it on 9/6. He said he told us the last draft would be 11/1 because of the 30 day notice rule, this is a lie, I have the voice mail he left me in Sept saying the last draft would be Oct 1 due to the 30 day notice rule. Also, he refused to come to the phone to speak to me when I called at 10:50 am on Nov 10. I was told I would have to wait for Patrick Young to call me back - even though Dave set up my membership, Dave set up the papers to charge my account, I had to send my cancellation notice to Dave, Dave is the one that originally left the voice mail that the last draft of my account would be on Oct 1 and Dave is the one that called back and said he didn't receive my letter of cancellation until 10/10. That is real funny since he called me on 9/8 to let me know he had received the letter and the last draft was going to be on 10/1.
I'm very concerned my credit card is in the hands of criminals. Should we change my account number? What can I do to protect myself from further unethical activity?
Thanks so much

Editor: Unfortunately, this kind of thing happens all the time with gyms. Changing your account number may cause the company to refer you to a collection agency, which will damage your credit. The best way to protect yourself against these types of things is to check with the Better Business Bureau before joining a gym, and read the contract carefully. You can also check with your state's Dept. of Commerce to determine your rights in these situations. Many states have laws addressing gym memberships directly.
Hot, fit women, and yes there are a lot of meatheads here which is a plus....keeps the environment serious and keeps you motivated. Arnold posters add some extra motivation.
I found this gym to be only useable in the wee hours of the morning. The price is reasonable and the facility is overall nice, but the amount of trainers in the gym is an annoyance. There are so many personal trainers in the gym that you can barely ever get time on any of the equipment. From 9am to 10pm you can forget working out b/c it is so crowded that none of the equipment is open, not to mention the place is filled with body building meatheads who cuss, spit, and intimidate others in the gym. Also, it is near impossible to cancel your membership. You must send a certified letter to do so and even then sometimes they do not cancel it. Currently, even after sending in a certified letter and talking to the owner i have still not managed to cancel my membership. It has been eight months now since my contract expired and i still get charged monthly.
