I joined almost a yr. ago and frankly have noticed most of the staff members are not very friendly. I really liked the fact that Powerhouse offered a variety of additional specialty classes, such as spin classes, hip hop, stability ball and body pump, etc. I have tried numerous times to show up at the times posted for these classes, only to find out the instructor had quit, or was sick or the time for the class had been changed due to someone who was teaching's schedule. This happened quite often. I also recently found out that all the classes that are posted on the back under class descriptions are NOT included in the gym membership monthly charge. I think that anything NOT included should be stated clearly. Not only was I treated rather unfairly when I showed up to take the body pump class for the first time, I was made to look like quite the fool for not knowing that this particular class was EXTRA! I just don't feel as if things were handled professionally about the whole situation and naturally my contract isn't up for 15 months so they pretty much have me for a while. I will make sure from now on before I sign as well. I was shown so much attention until I signed the contract too. I will go to the gym, workout like there's no tomorrow and not let a few unfriendly, unprofessional folks ruin my training. It's all about me getting in shape and I'm going to just ignore them.

This gym has a monopoly situation in effect; I guess there are not that many folks in the area that can afford a business the size of powerhouse to accommodate Pensacolians. Because if it was possible, I feel someone would have ran them out of business a long time ago, they have been around for a long time, I m not hating, but they must be doing something right, (Like keeping the competition in check) Keep it real folks, the other options are not viable, so whatcha gonna do? Keep going to Powerhouse, right?

I worked out at Power House for some time with all my friends. The staff was friendly as can be but ignored me once my contract was signed and didn't remember my name until renewals were up. I was working two jobs and didn't have time so I stopped going with my contract expired. Now well over a year later I get a phone call from them telling me my direct payment didn't go through! Since I stopped working out there I was laid off from my job, went back to bouncing, left due to injuries, became an EMT, MOVED TO OREGON!!!! And they are still deducting money. They said that their contract states that when your contract expires you have to verify you are leaving with them otherwise payments continue without a notice or invoice or anything! What a rip off!!!!!
The staff is friendly until you have signed the contract. Afterwards, they do not want to be bothered with you. DO NOT do the EFT. DO NOT give them your bank info. They overcharged me for several months, and then refused to do anything about it. I had to get the Florida Department of Consumer Services involved. Only then did they address the issue.
I have worked out at Powerhouse gym for over three years. I was satisfied until May of 2007, unauthorized and unnecessary withdrawals were taken from my bank acct. The staff feigned ignorance and promised to look into it. Months later when I became fed up with being brushed off and try to cancel my membership, I am told I owe over $80.00 in ridiculous and unsubstantiated fees, and when I disputed the fees with proof, they claimed that they meant another fee for something else! I am disappointed in Powerhouse. I loved working out there and am saddened that [the owner, perhaps?] could hire such an ignorant and passively aggressive management staff. Protect yourself financially if you join this gym.

This gym has recently renovated and is much better than before. The club has always been the best equipped gym in the area but the renovations have made it much nicer and cleaner. The management has done a great job at bringing this club up to par. My wife and I have been members for 4 years and would recommend it to anybody.
I move frequently and therefore change gym memberships on a regular basis; this is one of the worst.
Where to start? The attitude of some of the staff is unprofessional and unfriendly, but I don't want to discredit all of the staff because some of them are quite friendly and helpful. However the gym itself is not very clean, and the locker room could use a more thorough cleaning and mold treatment. Lastly, some of the equipment is not well taken care of, and I've had problems on a not infrequent basis with cardio and weight machines alike.
I have worked out in many gyms in my 20+ years of fitness. This is the second to worst facility I have ever seen. They do have plenty of free weights and machines, but the staff is not friendly and very self consummed. The Fitness trainners suffer from very high turn-over rate, and are also not very friendly or professional. The restrooms and showers are terrible, very poorly keep, and frequently smell of urine. I would not join this faciltity again and look foward to the termaintion of my contract with time or move.
Powerhouse is a great famliy gym. My mom and I joined this year and love it! They have great equipment and a good atmosphere. They also provide TVs to watch while you work out.
