PF is very convenient to where I live and there is ample parking which is always a good thing... however, I am concerned that they have enrolled too many people. You can never find a good time to get in there and it always is jam packed with people. I also have a problem with the fact that when they send promotional marketing to their members to sign up a friend, they do not offer ANY incentives. When PF first opened I referred 3 people and I'll I got was this lousy PF t-shirt (no pun intended)!! What about a month of free tanning or 2 months of free guest privileges? I approached the manager about it and his response was "don't talk to me about it, call corporate...!" He practically embarrassed me in front of patrons and his staff...he is a terrible manager. It appears that he thinks he's running a prison as opposed to a gym. I always catch him yelling at people for no reason. Their staff is a joke. There are these 2 young women who work there and all they do is flirt with the men and fool around. Big Foot could walk by the front desk and they wouldn't even know it...! The trainers are not that great. In fact, I would say the women trainers are much more experienced than the men. The other issue I have is air quality. It is ALWAYS hot in there. It's like they don't bother to put the A/C on all the time... there was this one time I was working out in the cardio area at 9:30 and they just decided to shut off the A/C... they don't officially close until 10pm. What's up with that? My mother always said "you get what you pay for..." - well she was right...
I have been a member here for 18 months and really looking for a new gym. Foremost the management is RUDE and just conducts poor business outright... The owner shows no respect to any of the members and shows no interest in making the experience or environment better. The plans/pricing is low, but don't expect management to go out of their way to make your workout experience better.
This gym is great for the casual workout; has all the standard equipment. Won't offer any instructor lead classes like aerobics, spin, kick-boxing, yoga, etc... Nothing to keep your workouts fresh and exciting. PF is fine for someone looking for cardio equipment and basic weight training.
I went to this gym for about a year and decided to join a different gym for numerous reasons. One of the main reasons was the equipment was sub par. The management took away all the dumbells above 65lbs. The dumbells only went up to 80lbs when they first open and they didn't give the customers any consent about the decision to take away the dumbells. There is no decline bench and only have one incline bech and two flat benches. The management, notibly the manager, at the gym in Dorchester is the biggest bonehead you will ever meet. He is rude to his customers and treats them like crap. I saw a guy get yelled at because he dropped a candy wrapper mistakenly. It seems like he doesn't want anybody working out or something. He is always strutting through the gym like they raised the terror alert level to red. Simply put he needs to be fired. I did not want to support his salary and switched gyms like a lot of people have recently. Final note: If you want a gym for cardio this gym will probably suit you. But if your're a male trying to get in shape look elsewhere because there is limited room for improvement because if the manager isn't yelling at you, you will find that the gym is crowded with people 80% of the time. $15 a month could be put somewhere better-try L street gym in southie it's cheaper and you won't have to deal with jerk manager.
Became a member of Planet Fitness almost by default, since the owners switched from Worlds gym to a Planet Fitness Franchise. They made intial promises of additional equpment to augment the new equpment they had purchased. But the fact is that they have started to remove equipment, such as flat bench and dumbbells. When questioned in regards to this, the response was "if you don't like it quit". The owners have become non-existent and there seems to be no sense that members needs or concerns are valued.
