Sumner Fitness is Solid
Just read an earlier review and have to disagree on some of the more critical points. You can't rate a gym lower on its published hours or on the fact that there is not a pool if you knew going in that the establishment had no pool and the hours are posted. That's like saying, well, I bought the Lexus only to find out later that it wasn't a BMW. The personal trainers at Sumner Fitness (SF) are pretty focused and do give you personalized attention when you've paid for the attention. The owners are hands-on and there most of the time. The avid golfer/owner spends most time working with clients who are focused on their golf games. What "fooling around with a golf club" for some is "working on grip and technique" for another. Sumner Fitness is more of a boutique fitness center, with hours that are best for people who want to work out and rehabilitate during the day. Night owls, spin maniacs, and triathletes would be happier elsewhere, for sure. But then again, some of those late-night and early-morning places get worn out pretty fast...

Sumner Fitness, Bethesda MD
I joined Sumner Fitness because it was close to home and had lots of parking, and seemed to be geared towards an 'older' clientele. Also, I was fairly new to gym-workouts, and I was told that the trainers on site would be around to give me lots of help /advice. I forgot to ask about the hours. It's a nice facility, although small, but the 4:30 on-the-dot closings on BOTH Saturday and Sunday, as well as the 8:00pm (now 8:30) weeknight closing time did not work for me. And two friends who I wanted to join with me said they neede a gym with "later" hours. Also, the trainers, although good, barely say hello (after your initial orientation) unless you are one of their clients. And even after paying for several personal sessions, they say "Hello", but don't offer advice, possibly because if they're not with a client, they are rarely there. The owner is usually fooling around with a golf club in the back.
