The best dojo in kalispell
JBJ Dojo is wonderful!!! I am a student at JBJ Dojo and I love it there. I am a green-belt right now but on February 9, 2008 I will be a blue-belt. I think that whoever wrote the "kinda of sad" review was totally wrong. Sensei Murray Jewett is a wonderful teacher, he really cares for the students (including me), and he does not make up things on the spot just to fill up the hour. I should know all things because I am on the staff and I am really glad I can go there and that I get to help out with the other students. If you don't believe me than just check out JBJ Dojo for your self. Everyone there is really nice and they help anyone with anything. It is the BEST dojo in Kalispell. By the way it doesn't matter if you have a black-belt in any other martial art you still need to have respect for the teacher who runs the dojo that you are visiting.

I reviewed all of the dojos in the valley and found this one to fit my needs. It's non-competitive, teaching atmosphere is very conducive to the students that I bring there every week. It has increased the attention span, discipline level, and self-esteem of each of these students who all experience some type of learning difficulty.

Most of the instructors are very willing to take the extra time to work with the newer belts and teach them the skills necessary to advance. Overall, a great dojo for people who want to learn the martial arts in a non-competitive environment.

I would recommend

My six yr old son is a student, he has been involved with the JBJ DOJO since 4/2006.

I really enjoy the non-competitive atmosphere, the students are only in competition with themselves. I think this is good for young kids. I hope the previous review is taken with a grain of salt and does not discourage anyone from coming to class and deciding for themselves if this is a good class for them or their child. I will say again I have nothing but good to say about the instructor and his staff.

kind of sad
I have been practicing martial arts my entire life.  I hold a black belt in Kempo, Ju Jitsu and am an acomplished kick boxer.  I grew up in Kalispell and moved back home earlier this year and so started checking out some of the local schools in the area.  My buddy and I decided to check out JBJ Dojo.  I tell you it was really hard not to laugh while the instructor was explaining (and incorectly) how to perform simple strikes and rolls that should have taken a whole 5 miniets for anyone to master.  Mostly it seemed as if he was making things up on the spot and just triing to fill the time till the hour was over.  I thought maybe it was just an off night so I came back again for another class and it was worse then the first night.  I also found some time afterward to practice some things with some of his "higher" ranking students.  They didn't even have the basic skills that anyone with two weeks under there belt at a real martial-arts school would know.  I think what I found most distubing about JBJ Dojo is not that the instructor is ripping people off its that his students keep falling for it week after week.
