Great if you aren't big into fitness
I'm a personal trainer, so I'm a bit more picky than most. But, in short, I don't like these gyms. They work towards achieving a "no judgment" atmosphere, however for the first few months the front desk staff did nothing but. I tried bringing in an attachment for the cable machine and they wouldn't allow it (it's a section of PVC with a carabiner on the end.) Okay, I can understand that, but no need for the attitude ("what is that, and what do you think you're doing with it?") Next, I carry with me a gallon water jug with me (yes, I like to stay hydrated, and I haven't found a bottle in between a gallon and 32 oz, so opt for larger.) They won't let me in with it. I ask why. "Because it could spill." I can't see how a smaller water bottle with the same size opening stands a less chance of spilling, but whatever. From a fitness perspective, they have the bare minimum. They don't have any functional training equipment (stability balls, medicine balls, foam rollers, bands, etc.) They focus more on machines, and heavily on cardio equipment. The typical setup is one huge open floor plan, so everyone is in plain view (I always feel like I'm being watched.) And the lunk alarm is loud enough that it scares the crap out of me, and I'm just waiting for the day when I drop a weight on my toe from being startled. It's also filled with college-aged crowd, probably due to the low membership dues. So, it has a gossipy feel and some remind me of my college gym. I also miss having aerobics classes, which they don't offer.

Lunk, smunk..
First they have a an alarm, siren, and lights that goes off if you grunt too loud, or drop a weight. No headwraps, bandanas, because could be misconstrued as gang colors, (in New Hampshire, come on). No chalk, no gallon water allowed, no bags to hold straps and wraps on floor...Dumbbells only go up to 80 pounds and you cannot rent a locker. Was told that they don't like guys like me who are bodybuilders or powerlifters. Hey, they're cheap and also they're cheap.
