Steuben Athletic Club

The Steuben Athletic Club is the only facility I have been a member of in the Albany area which offers everything for a total workout for everyone.

 

If you like basketball they play pick up daily, plus have a very competitive league with STATS. Squash is huge and the tournaments and round robin play is extremely competitive. If you prefer racquetball they have 3 courts for that also.

 

If you prefer to simply do cardio they have an entire cardio room, with treadmills, bikes, ellipticals, stair steppers, recumbants, skiing machines, etc...

 

Weight training is available in two other rooms one for machine training the other for free weights.

 

But what I use and what I think is the best part of the club is the 150+ group classes they teach each month. The classes are incredible, the instructors which is mainly the staff is diligent in making sure people have a good time while training, which keeps them coming back. In addition the classes are broad in type of class to the level at which its taught so no one is left out.

 

They also have a cycle fit room, which intimidates me a little, but seems to be full of people when the classes are being taught.

 

When you are done you can then go to their whirlpool, relax in their regular pool or take a sauna or steam which are available in both the men's and women's locker rooms. The locker rooms are very large, clean and they provide you with towels, lotions, deodorants, etc.. for you to use at your leisure.

 

If I had to post a negative the only thing I could say is that the business has been operating their for 25 years and shows some signs of age, but even then it's still head and shoulders above anything else I have trained at.

 

The members are professionals who are respectful and friendly to each other, unlike other places where you deal with kids, meatheads and rudeness.

 

The place is simply great.

While the Steuben Athletic Club purports to be an upscale club with a professional atmosphere, it is in reality a dirty and outdated club which employs the least professional staff I have ever encountered.  It is overpriced and I have heard from several people that they sneak charges onto your credit card. The staff are extremely unprofessional, disorganized, and rude and the club itself is filthy, has no parking, and operates during ridiculous hours. Stay away.
