ReviewsHealthplex has a very poor reputation of trying to sell you. If they manage to convince you to join...pay all fees up front...DO NOT USE YOUR CREDIT CARD OR USE YOUR CHECKING ACCOUNT!!!!!!! You will be sorry. They will continue to charge you even after you cancel...and give you the run around in the process. They fire employees constantly and then do not pay them. You'll hear all the dirt within days of being there. Find a gym that has professionals in it. This is not the place to find them!
Editor: Are you supposed to pay employees after you fire them? Damned labor unions...
I joined HealthPlex about a year ago and I have trained with a professional trainer threre and I got great results. I also felt very motivated every time I left there. My husband is also a member there and has been training with a professional trainer for the past year also. The owners have a business to run and I dont think they have time to deal with the bull sh____!!!! As far as the memberships are concerned, we all read and signed our contracts on the dotted lines, and I guess a few people decided they rather stuff their faces than work out or whatever the case might be decided that they rather break the contract they signed for and could not get out of it, so they decided to corrupt our local gym.
Yes, my hsusband and I are still members and so are our friends. We actually go to work out, not check out the model numbers on the equipment.

Well the first review on this site pretty much sums up my experience. The gym took my money and RAN!!! I broke my ankle and no longer wanted to be a part of this gym so i requested to have it canceled! Did they cancel my gym membership? ABSOLUTLY NOT. They proceeded to keep charging my credict card monthly for FOUR MONTHS after I asked them repeatly NOT TO! I called the gym and asked to speak to the owner and he was out for lunch, on vacation, could not get to the phone. So then I asked for the accountant and obviously she was out to lunch, on vacation, could not get to the phone and then they kept lying to me that she would be back in 20 min. So i called back and then the front desk said she would be back in 45 Min. Also I have 3 insidents where friends have worked there and the owner was ripping them off with there paychecks!!! IF YOU JOIN THIS GYM YOU ARE STUPID!!! stay farrrrrrrrrrrrr farrrrrrrr away just like the other person wrote... all they want is YOUR MONEY and i STILL have NOT got my money back!!! BEWARE
This gym took my money and ran. I requested to have my membership cancelled the last four months of my contract because I moved 27 miles out of the area. The owner would not release me from the membership and continued to bill my debit card $45 for each of the remaining four months. At the term of my membership the gym proceeded to bill my account for an additional three months!! I called the gym about the billing issues several times. My phone calls were not returned and the accountant blew me off by letting me know there are more "pressing" matters that need to be taken care of. During my stay at the gym, I was a loyal member and paid hundreds of dollars for additional services such as personal training and supplements. They treated me awfully, and I have yet to see the money they illegally pulled from my checking account. Stay far away from these people because all they care about is stealing money from people.
Editor: Unfortunately, this kind of thing happens all the time with gyms. Changing your account number may cause the company to refer you to a collection agency, which will damage your credit. The best way to protect yourself against these types of things is to check with the Better Business Bureau before joining a gym, and read the contract carefully. You can also check with your state's Dept. of Commerce to determine your rights in these situations. Many states have laws addressing gym memberships directly.
I had a year membership at healthplex and finally was starting to get bored with the equipment there. I do have to say that the equipment is pretty new, but they also do not give you much space to work out. With that said; I left the healthplex to move on to another gym that offered more variety and I was hassled by the staff with numerous phone calls before leaving. I even went as far to call back and complain, but I still got one more phone call before my membership ended. Just beware when joining the healthplex.
