Not perfect but best in the area
The Murfreesboro Athletic Club is very nice. The cardio machines have personal dvd players as well as cable t.v. The bathrooms are clean with all the perks. The classes are wonderful with and they offer a great variety. This is the best gym around - "hands-down." I use the child-care service and the girls are great. You have to take a moment to get to know them and you will see some are better than others but your child will be safe and entertained. My only complaint would be the cardio-theatre. It's a huge membership grabber - where else can you watch a theatre size showing while you work out - but they play the worst movies. I think the manager literally just grabs whatever movie is laying around his house. It is often out of service anyway. I am pretty sure that they could use better management. But when I think about the fact that I NEVER had to wait for a machine and feel confident that my kids are safe, you can't beat it. Also, being a women, I have never felt uncomfortable that men are there. They are always respectful and the atmoshphere is great. There are people there that are obese and people that most likely compete athletically. I have seen local doctors and pastors working out there as well as a slew of "stay at home moms" like myself. Besides the cardio theatre - I can't complain.

Looking at face value you would think this gym would be great. They have nice equipment, a cardio theater (picture a movie theater with cardio machines instead of seats), a great basketball gym, etc.

However after a year as a member I can tell you it is poorly ran. Here are some things I have noticed:

1. The staff is incompetent when it comes to getting paperwork from this location to their corporate HQ. They have failed on numerous occasions to forward my payments, luckily I always hold on to my receipts. They also failed to forward my proof of college enrollment which gets me a discount. All told they have messed up on my account 5 times already, and each time took at least an hour on my part with their corporate office on the phone to clean up their mess. I go to the gym to blow off stress, not have them create more for me!

2. The Cardio Theater - A great concept, right? They play rental DVD's on the large screen in there, you work out while you watch a movie. The only problem is the staff can't manage to restart the movie in a timely manner so you are often in there 10-20 minutes watching the title screen loop continuously. This is extremely annoying!

3. The sauna in the men's locker room has been out of order at least 1.5 months out of the year I've been a member there, if not more.

4. At least 1/2 the front desk staff has no concept of customer service. You're lucky to even get a hello out of that portion as they are too busy talking to co-workers or watching "Saved By the Bell" reruns (WTF?!!) on tv. I don't expect the red carpet but I like to be made to feel welcome at a place I spend money at month after month. And no, I've never been rude to any of them.

Overall, this gym is a real disappointment. All it really needs is a good general manager to improve it though, so maybe there is hope.

top notch
State of the art gym that is basically open 24-7. They have everything from free weights to pilates classes. A basketball gym, dry sauna, cardio theater, smoothie bar, and child care are some of the amenities that really put this gym over the top. I work out at 8pm, and I never wait for a machine (even in January). Best in the area. Hands down. They also don't make you pay a crazy signup fee for hundreds of dollars. I think it was only 30 bucks.

Great gym
This place may be a little more expensive than Gold's or Olympus, but you definately get what you pay for. This place is definately state of the art. There is tons of cardio equipment so that even on the most crowded part of the day, there is a machine available. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Nicest gym I've ever been at. Most definately would recommend.
