Does Not Achieve Potential
This fairly new YMCA does not live up to the standards set by other modern YMCAs. Though the facility is large and houses an indoor pool, the free-weight and weight-training equipment in the basement seems more an afterthought than a key attribute. The dumbbells are rubberized, but are very limited in selection. They are located in an unacceptably small corner that provides lifters little room to exercise with them. Those who use the dumbbells may find it difficult to work out without obstructing other members' access to the dumbbell racks. Many of the machines are fairly new and of high quality, which saves the equipment ranking from falling lower. Some or all machines in the sprint line are equipped to electronically monitor users' progress as part of a personal training program, which is a nice feature. An indoor track provides a small but suitable alternative to treadmills and running outside in extreme temperatures. One set of cable crossovers is available, but the two multi-purpose selectorized weight stacks to which the cables are affixed are so far apart that their use as cable crossovers is somewhat impractical and not really appropriate when the gym is crowded. Serious lifters will want to avoid the YMCA, while local high school students and people with moderate fitness goals may find the facilities adequate for their needs.
